Pretty Pinks and Fat Bows

I had a big small rush order this week - small quantity, lots of work to do - and at the end of it all I was more than absolutely pleased.

My beautiful, November bride to be was looking for an invitation that was indicative of her wedding theme that is based off of Shakespeare's, A Midsummer Night's Dream. She wanted something very whimsical and delicate, yet elegant and sexy - yes, she said sexy.

That said, I created this gorgeous invitation :::pats one's self on the back::: incorporating all her wants and must haves and I think it came out absolutely amazing. I chose to use no graphics and simply a pretty font resembling hand calligraphy of the olden days. Since I didn't use any illustrations on this design, I decided to play with mixing the various textures of the papers used, from the 'sexy' dark pink, crinkled lokta paper belly band to the stylish, coral pink pearlescent card stock. The final touch was added by using an iridescent, wrinkled silk bow to tie up {no pun intended} the organic feel of the invitation.

All in all, my pinks and bows obsessed bride was more than elated by the final product and was absolutely thrilled with the complimentary calligraphy work on the envelopes by Curlicue Designs.

Sooooo Busy!!!!!

I know, I know - I have been horrible about keeping up with blog posts! Between work, getting the shop up and ready and life, I just haven't had the time. Nevertheless, I have so much to share with you in the up coming weeks that will prove that my time away has been indeed worth it. I finally got my shop opened and ready to accommodate client meetings and display my work. I also got some of my catalogues in the shop from Carlson Craft and Monique Lhuillier {still waiting for a couple of my other favourite designers' books to come in}.

Furthermore, I finally finished my wedding invitation collection and I also designed my first line of boxed stationery. Over the next three weeks, I will be printing, pretty packaging and posting all the lovely things I've been working on, with the help of the fabulous, budding photographer, Daniel S. of Hugh Morris Photography. {p.s. none of the photos on this post are his - all are courtesy of my beloved Blackberry :)

My Very First National Stationery Show!!!

Some of the awesome cards by
Egg Press that will be at LNS Boutique
I attended the stationery show yesterday at the Jacob Javitz Center in NYC and it was AMAZEBALLS!!!!!!!!

I didn't get to see everything and everyone - I've been overwhelmed with work, haven't slept much and been uber busy, but who's complaining ;)

Nevertheless, I got to meet some amazing designers and vendors like the girls at Smock Papers, Tom @ Tag and Co., as well as the reps at Egg Press. I also placed some cool orders from the likes of Evy Jacob, Orange Art and Notes and Queries for my store opening next month and I am excited!

Check out my Facebook page for a couple pictures of the vendors I love and got to see and will soon be carrying in my shop!

Busy, Busy May!

A lot has developed since my last post and all great, big news! I decided that rather than launching my custom design and print company as only a e-service, I'm going to balls in and open my own little boutique in DUMBO, Brooklyn this coming June. Thus, the space has been picked, design plans are being worked on and all the little fixtures and details are being fussed over and I'm entirely thrilled by what's to come.

My Little Project in the Making

On the same token, I've had an odd influx in freelance work and I'm so not complaining. I have a really cool wedding invitation I've been working on for a wonderful couple - I'll post pics of those quite soon; and I also have a bunch of identity products and social stationery I've worked on, that I am quite happy about. All in all, everything is going great and if this is any sign of the potential growth in my business, I am definitely ready and excited to take it on.

I will also be attending some really cool networking events this month, including Wedding Wire's NYC Vendors Networking Night at Midtown Loft and Terrace, Brooklyn Bride's Annual NSS Meetup at Brooklyn Winery and of course, the crème de la crème, National Stationery Show - I CANNOT WAIT!!!!

So there you have it! Each and every day, jam packed, booked solid, with barely a moment to spare, but all towards a beautiful and bright future for Lily Notes Studio and myself.

Full Steam Ahead!!!!

So...I have finally created a logo that I can say that I am thoroughly happy with and will not change for quite some time. I've also been working on finally building my website - I got tired of waiting for someone to do it for me and it pained me to pay someone $1500 to create a cheapo website I can build myself. I have also been working on finalising my designs and printing my stationery samples and I am insanely happy about this.

That said, I know I have been building Lily Notes for quite some time - perfection is not instant - but I have been making an active effort in making Lily Notes Studio a successful business and have been taking on more freelance clients as of late. One of my clients, a current co-worker of mine at my other job, Judy Paulen Designs - yes I have two jobs besides my work with Lily Notes - is a jewelry designer. She has been looking for someone to design her logo and business cards for quite sometime and have not been able to find the right look. Realising the potential opportunity, I jumped at the chance to create something for her and she absolutely loved it - not exaggerating. Now, I'm helping her design the rest of her business identity including her Etsy page, website and other necessary stationery. I'm not quite done with her project, but I will post samples of what I'm working later this week - just need her permission first.

I must say, I'm really happy now, with all old distractions behind me. I've been able to fully focus on me and only me. To really explore all my possibilities and finally build something for myself without having to worry about pleasing someone else. I am most certainly looking forward to how everything turns out and all the pleasures I get to enjoy!
